Employee Spotlight – Meet Kate Harrison

What is your role at Brunsdon Financial?

I am an administrator on the Brunsdon Employee Benefits team.

How did you come to your role?

My background is in financial services and working with independent financial advisers (IFAs). When I fancied a change, I decided to see what working in Employee Benefits could offer. I met with the manager, Julie, and one of the directors, Seb, and instantly knew that the role and Brunsdon Financial were the right fit for me.

What do you like most about your role?

Employee Benefits can be complicated; I love making our clients’ lives easier by ensuring that their employees get the most out of their benefits. It doesn’t matter whether it’s pensions, private medical insurance, group life insurance or any of the other benefits available, it’s all so important and can make a real difference to their employees’ lives. I love having a positive impact on that.

If you could wave a magic wand to achieve anything you wanted at work, what would it be?

That’s a tough question to answer as I think Brunsdon Financial have been brilliant, particularly since Covid has come along. They’ve done so much to enable their staff to continue working from home and in the office with ease.

It would be great for our team to expand and grow in line with our clients, and I think my magic wand would grant us a bigger office kitchen so that there is more space for making drinks!

What experience/s have you had which have helped you in your career to date?

As well as my job here at Brunsdon Employee Benefits, I’m also a Slimming World consultant and I think that really helps me with my role here. I have lots of experience dealing with all kinds of people from different backgrounds and walks of life, which has had a positive impact on me and how I deal with clients and colleagues at Brunsdon Financial as well.

What has been your most exciting career moment/favourite career achievement so far?

My favourite career moment so far was passing my auto-enrolment exam. Exams have always been something I’ve struggled with, so to pass that first time was such a great feeling and meant all the hard work had paid off.

Who are your role models?

I don’t tend to have role models, I just try and surround myself with positive, happy people who are kind and supportive. Who you have around you is so important and can have such an impact on how you feel and live your life.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about you?

Another tricky one! I suppose the most interesting thing I have done was go to South Africa on my honeymoon. We watched some cricket and went on a safari where a baby rhino came so close that we were worried its mum was going to charge us! The whole experience was amazing.

Outside of work, what do you like to do?

I’m mum to my 4-year-old son and stepmum to my 12-year-old stepdaughter, so outside of work we do lots of family things. Swimming, parks, football, adventures and the dreaded soft play! I also love doing my bootcamp class once a week.

How would you like to be remembered, a) by your friends and family and b) by your Brunsdon Financial colleagues and clients?

I’d like to be remembered by my friends as happy, fun and always there for them whenever I’m needed. I’d echo this for my clients and colleagues, but also hope that I was a helpful person to come to, with a good knowledge of the business.
