His extraordinary effort was not just as a personal test of endurance but to raise £4,000 for two causes close to his heart. The first part was for Refuge, the UK charity supporting victims of domestic violence, and the second part was for the Forest of Dean Gymnastics Centre, the community facility where all of Lennie’s children train and which is currently fundraising £225,000 to replace its leaky roof.
A Challenge with a Purpose
After months of training, Lennie set off on the demanding trail—muddy paths, steep climbs and unpredictable weather—determined to cover 78.6 miles before the 24-hour cutoff.
“By the third marathon I was absolutely broken—constant rain and mud everywhere—but when dawn brought sunlight, I got a second wind,” he recalls.
Race Against the Clock
Pushing through fatigue and pain, Lennie crossed the final marathon finish line with just three minutes to spare on the 24-hour limit. His tracker revealed:
- Total distance: 80.04 miles
- Moving time: 22 h 18 m
- Calories burned: 13,226
- Finish time: 23 h 57 m
“Seeing that clock hit 23:57 felt like winning a gold medal,” Lennie reflects. “I’d pushed far beyond what I thought possible.”
