Lisa Morman, Chartered Financial Adviser at Brunsdon Financial Services, recently took part in ‘The Speed Project’ challenge with five friends. The team was delighted to finish as the third best of the women’s teams taking part in the world!
The Speed Challenge is normally a foot race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Runners are challenged to run between the two locations in the fastest possible time – the route they choose is up to them. However, like many other events, due to COVID19, the organisers had to rethink the competition this year. This time, the challenge was to log as many miles as possible over a set period of 31 hours and 15 minutes. Hence, on Saturday 5 September at 4.00 am PDT (Pacific Daylight Time), more than 200 teams throughout the world started to race.
Lisa and her team mates (Ellie May, Claire, Ces, Xan and Charlie) completed the gruelling challenge around the Victoria and Olympic Parks in Hackney, East London. They ran throughout day and night, each team member running 40 minutes at a time. In total, Lisa ran nine legs over the allotted time period. At the end of the race, the team had recorded a fantastic running distance of 376 km (234 miles).
Lisa says: “It was very tough, but really good fun and a great challenge. The team was fantastic and we’re proud to be the third best women’s team in the world!”
The team is hoping that their participation in this year’s virtual event will help them to qualify to take part in next year’s actual event (subject to COVID restrictions being lifted). They should know by early next year if the event is going to take place and, if so, whether they’ve qualified. Until then, you can be sure that the ladies will continue to pound the streets of East London as they prepare for their next punishing event!
