Every month we like to feature a different Brunsdon Financial team member. This month, we’re having a chat with Paraplanner, Helen Hoy.
What is your role at Brunsdon Financial?
I’m a Paraplanner (which has nothing to do with parachutes!).
How did you come to your role?
I’ve been Paraplanning for many years now but I started off as an office junior when I left college and have worked my way through different roles on the Financial Adviser side since. I joined Brunsdon Financial a week into lockdown to help set up an in-house paraplanning team.
What do you like most about your role?
Of all the places I’ve worked, Brunsdon Financial is the best; I have great colleagues and a great working environment. We work well together as a team.
I also enjoy the research and technical aspects of my role, especially spreadsheets and a good tax calculation. It’s great to work through a case and create a finished report and recommendations.
If you could wave a magic wand to achieve anything you wanted at work, what would it be?
A perfect file.
What advice would you give someone starting out in business now?
Try everything. Gain experience in as many areas as you can, even if it’s not an area you want to be in in the future. It will really help with your experience.
What’s the best piece of business-related advice you were ever given?
Listen, watch and learn. You can learn from everyone in the business, from the lowest paid to those at the top.
If you could, what would you tell your 21-year old self?
Enjoy yourself. Life won’t be easy but it’ll be worth it.
Who are your business heroes?
I don’t have any as such; I find inspiration in real life stories about people succeeding despite all the obstacles in their way.
Outside of work, what do you like to do?
I like to dance and I go Ceroc dancing when I can. I’m also an England Athletic Coach with a specialist in wheelchair racing.
How would you like to be remembered, a) by your friends and family and b) by your Brunsdon Financial clients?
A) As a kind and loving person who made a difference by being in their lives. B) That nice person in the background.
