How did you come to your role as Client Relationship Manager with Brunsdon Financial?
I’ve been working with employers and members of workplace pensions since graduating from University. I was (and still am!) keen to use some of the theory learned as part of my Economics studies and use it in the real world. Seeing how people react to change is a big part of Economics – and employee benefits delivery too!
What do you like most about your role?
Definitely working with clients – particularly with respect to some of the big projects we have been working on recently. I particularly enjoy getting me teeth into new and unusual technical/legislative challenges
If you could wave a magic wand to achieve anything you wanted at work, what would it be?
To provide employers and trustees with a guarantee that pensions legislation wouldn’t change as often!
What advice would you give someone starting out in business now?
Keep an eye on the detail – it really does matter!
What’s the best piece of business-related advice you were ever given?
Consider the reason behind rules and legislation – once you know what the lawmakers are trying to achieve, it helps you understand how to work well with them.
If you could, what would you tell your 21-year old self?
Never stop thinking “why”. Understanding the reason behind why people make the decisions that they do is really important. If you understand what makes people tick, you are far more likely to provide them with something that meets their needs.
Who are your business heroes?
I’m a big podcast fan – check out Wondery’s Business Wars – and Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard is impressive. A great example of how morals, ethics and business success can all complement each other.
Outside of work, what do you like to do?
I love spending time with my family and friends. When with them, an ideal day would be somewhere warm and on the coast, cooking (outdoors), then demolishing all of that and maybe a quick cycle to work it off before doing the same again!
How would you like to be remembered, a) by your friends and family and b) by your Brunsdon Financial clients?
By my friends and family as someone who always had the time – especially for my own family. Someone who was fun to be around. Someone who could knock out a great pizza
By my clients, as someone who is authentic, and never short of time to make sure that everything is done properly.
