Every month we will be featuring a different Brunsdon Financial team member. For October, it’s the turn of our Mortgage Administrator, Kayleigh Hateley.
What is your role at Brunsdon Financial?
I am a Mortgage Administrator.
How did you come to your role?
Luckily for me Brunsdon Financial was starting up its mortgage business at a time when I had recently been made redundant, so it was a perfect opportunity to join a newly developing area of the company. In my previous role I was working as a mortgage administrator and a few years earlier had gained my Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice qualification, so the role that came up at Brunsdon Financial was perfect for me at the perfect time.
What do you like most about your role?
It has been great to be highly involved in the setup of B Mortgages. I really enjoy recommending changes to improve the way we do things and trying to make things as simple and effective as possible.
If you could wave a magic wand to achieve anything you wanted at work, what would it be?
I would become an Adviser with a massive client bank of people who want to buy mansions! That would be a great challenge.
What experiences have you had which have helped you in your career to date?
I went traveling for three years and worked in Australia and New Zealand, which was an amazing experience. Someone coming round with a drinks trolley for beers at your desk every Friday was a particular highlight!
I did a few different jobs including hostel receptionist, working for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and working for an insurance company. All great experiences that enabled me to immerse myself in a new culture.
What has been your best career achievement so far?
Being part of B Mortgages from its inception has been brilliant and I’m excited to see how successful the business will be. Definitely a career highlight.
Who are your role models?
My fabulous colleague, Laura Martin; she’s the most efficient Maccy D’s co-ordinator in all the land. She does a great job with the Friday breakfast order for the office!
Can you tell us an interesting fact about you?
When I was at university (UWIC, now Cardiff Met) my football team won the British championship. I then represented Wales at the British University Games.
Outside of work, what do you like to do?
Pre-lockdown I used to play hockey, football and went to the gym a lot. Now the gym barely gets a look in and hockey’s out the window but I do still play football. I joined Forest Green Rovers this season in a bid to avoid retiring just yet!

How would you like to be remembered, a) by your friends and family and b) by your Brunsdon Financial colleagues and clients?
By my friends and family, loyal, honest, funny and spontaneous. And by my colleagues and clients, simply as Kay from mortgages.
