Every month we like to feature a different Brunsdon Financial team member. This month, we’re getting to know Senior Financial Adviser, Jon Rhind.
What is your role at Brunsdon Financial?
I’m a Senior Financial Adviser.
How did you come to your role?
I was an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) with a major bank for nearly 20 years when they dramatically altered their proposition, making me feel the need to find an alternative company that shared the same business ethos as me.
Brunsdon Financial were recommended to me by a friend in the industry that had a professional connection with them and we found an effective fit. The rest, as they say, is history.
What do you like most about your role?
The ability to be completely autonomous provided that I deliver the quality and level of business that is expected, and working with Dean Baldwin, one of our Directors.
If you could wave a magic wand to achieve anything you wanted at work, what would it be?
Reduction to processing times and no unforeseen delays.
What advice would you give someone starting out in business now?
Deliver what you promise, within the timeframe that you promise it. If you can’t, tell the customer that and the reason why.
What’s the best piece of business-related advice you were ever given?
Don’t waste time and energy fighting demands and constraints that you can’t influence. Concentrate on the choices that you can influence.
If you could, what would you tell your 21-year old self?
Don’t marry the first two wives, buy property and invest heavily in Apple and Google as soon as they’re floated!
Who are your business heroes?
I don’t really have any as I try to make my style a hybrid of lots of the good aspects from others.
Outside of work, what do you like to do?
I like to watch both rugby and cricket. I’m a season ticket holder with Bath Rugby and have been on three Ashes tours Down Under with the Barmy Army. If not for Covid I would also have done a Lions trip – that’s now the goal for 2025.
How would you like to be remembered, a) by your friends and family and b) by your Brunsdon Financial clients?
A) By my friends and family – as being fun, reliable and never shy to buy my round!
B) By my Brunsdon Financial clients – as being knowledgeable, reliable, approachable, but not too stuffy.
As it’s December we’re throwing in a special bonus Christmas-related question. What do you look forward to most around Christmas time?
Spending time socialising with friends, colleagues and family.
